Pizza Boxes – Recyclable or Not?

When it comes to green washing – the term when a company claims to be environmentally friendly but in reality, the product or action is harmful – one of the biggest offenders is the paper product and corrugated cardboard industries.

Think about all those paper plates and pizza boxes with the big recycling symbols on them. The fact is that after use, these food-stained, greasy plates or pizza boxes ARE NOT recyclable; even worse, the misinformed, well-intentioned public’s attempt to recycle these soiled materials cost disposal agencies more than $700 million per year – primarily due to damage to machinery. There are additional costs and hassles such as the disposal of the soiled paper or cardboard.
